It’s for your Health!
It is important to find time for yourself to get in some form of physical activity, especially since many of us lead mostly sedentary lifestyles. I have given you advice on the latest guidelines for physical activity, including that there is no longer a one bout minimum time.
Now, it’s about the long term health benefits!
Some people choose to exercise for vanity reasons, especially this time of year when the weather is warmer, and we get to show off our results at the beach! But I want to talk about benefits that are deeper than the surface.
Here a few of the benefits:
- Benefits related to brain health, cancer sites and injuries from falls
- Short-term and long-term benefits for how we function, feel and sleep, (including improving depression symptoms and postpartum depression symptoms)
- Benefits for older adults and those with chronic conditions
- Information about the risks of maintaining a sedentary lifestyle
I really want you to understand how vital it is to move regularly and to realize how urgent it is for your health. Getting in 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week can help you cognitively, your quality of life, depression, anxiety, and sleep. You also reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease including heart disease, which is the leading cause of death in the United States.
It’s important to start wherever you are, and not to overdo it!
